Longtable Restaurant at Haskell Vineyards in the Cape Winelands of South Africa, has won an international Thacks Award for ‘Best Brunch in the Cape Winelands’. Longtable Restaurant offers exceptional food, warm service, and stunning views that make it a must-visit for anyone in the Stellenbosch Cape winelands area.
During our visit, we had the pleasure of trying three dishes, each of which was outstanding:
I had the BBQ pork belly with ponzu and citrus slaw, granny smith apple and charred corn, that added a subtle sweetness and texture to the dish. The pork belly was cooked to perfection, with crispy skin and succulent meat that melted in my mouth. The slaw was tangy and refreshing, while the charred corn added a smoky sweetness to the dish.
Another Thacks Awards panelest normally based in Australia, Mandy, tried the seafood bisque with fennel, potato and chimichurri which showcased the chef’s skill and creativity. The bisque was creamy and rich, with a delicate balance of flavors that complemented the seafood perfectly. The fennel and potato added aromatics and depth to the dish, while the chimichurri provided a zesty freshness that tied everything together beautifully.
Our guest had the poached eggs with chorizo, marinated chickpeas, spinach, and goat cheese: a hearty dish, bursting with umami and earthy flavours. The eggs were perfectly poached, with runny yolks that added richness to the dish. The chorizo was spicy and savory, while the marinated chickpeas and spinach contributed freshness and texture. The goat cheese provided a balanced tangy creaminess.
The pricing at Longtable Restaurant is exceptionally reasonable, with an average cost of around R100 ($6) per person. Given the high quality of the food and the beautiful surroundings, this is indeed excellent value for money for locals and of course international visitors to South Africa. It’s rare to find a restaurant of this calibre in such a stunning location that offers such affordable prices.
In addition to the exceptional food, Longtable Restaurant offers a relaxed atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating options, both with superb views of the surrounding vineyards.
The staff at Longtable Restaurant are incredibly attentive and provide excellent service. From the moment you step foot in the restaurant, you are greeted with a warm smile and a friendly welcome. They are knowledgeable about the menu as well as the award winning Haskell estate wines.
I highly recommend Longtable Restaurant to anyone visiting the Cape Winelands region, especially if you are a foodie looking for exceptional cuisine in a stunning setting.
