Son Restaurant (Bordeaux) Review

Ranked a #1 Restaurant in Bordeaux, Son indeed delivers a treat and is sold as a ‘sophisticated restaurant presenting innovative cuisine amid elegant surroundings’.

This is an award winning and credible dining experience with a great ‘value for money’ €25 lunch menu and a €65 five-course dinner menu for what it is. Though when we compared it to Bouet in Valencia, the price got you a more exciting dinner menu at Bouet.

We booked a trip to Bordeaux from Valencia and were surprised at the price – and made our reservations for Son a few weeks ahead of time for the dinner menu. We had a lovely meal which was good value though the overall experience was lacking something – so it just missed out on a Top 5 2022 Thacks Award.

The menu is fresh, varied and changes often but we liked the Squid, coconut with kaffir. The elements worked well with the coconut though the squid was slightly tough (but tasty). The Julienne Fillet in green (spinach, peas and white butter) crust with mash was not bad either but the presentation fell a bit short. The desserts were most impressive looking with the honeycomb and mango-looking presentation. The service was good and efficient but not overly friendly.

Still, a worthy overall 8/10 and definitely worth a visit if you go to Bordeaux.
