One would think that it’s easy to find many wine bars offering a selection of great wines by the glass and bottles in a wine-producing country but to my disappointment, that is not the case in Mexico City.
Visit cities in France, Italy, South Africa, Australia, Argentina, and other wine-producing countries and you will find an abundance of great wine bars to choose from offering wine tasting, wine pairing, and bespoke wine events with wine makers from the respective wine-producing regions.

Enter Mexico City and you’re somewhat disappointed by the lack of options available to enjoy wine. Having tried a few places that claim to be ‘wine bars’, only offering a few mediocre wines by the glass, I was very happy to stumble upon Tierras de Uva. Its classy yet friendly environment allows for a wonderful experience to enjoy some of Spain’s excellent boutique wines. Yes, you read that correctly! One of the two owners is from Asturias in Spain and imports a wide range of exceptional Spanish wines from around the country.
The wine by the glass menu changes often so as a regular visitor you get to try different wines out of Riedel glasses which just adds to the exquisite journey through Spain in a glass.

There’s a delicious selection of jamones on offer – again all products are from Spain. Each glass of wine is accompanied by a tapa which usually consists of pan con jamon (bread with ham). If you’d like, you can of course order a bottle of wine to enjoy alone or share with friends.
If you find yourself in Mexico City and you’re looking for great wines but don’t mind ditching the local wines, make Tierras de Uva your first stop. You’ll be disappointed if you go elsewhere after experiencing Tierras de Uva and you’ll kick yourself if you waste your time visiting the other mediocre so-called ‘wine bars’.
