After five consistent visits in 2021 by three of the Thacks Awards panelists (one was just a cheesecake and wine visit!), Bouet Restaurant was the 2nd Thacks Awards win for the city of Valencia. A consistent solid offering and great service, with one of the nicest sommeliers we’d met, meant this restaurant easily ticked all the boxes in the five Thacks Award winning categories. We have also noticed that it’s become a bit harder getting a reservation which confirms the popularity of their fine offering.
One of the Thacks Awards panelists remarked: “Valencia is actually underrated and under-visited in terms of Spanish city breaks and their food and wine offering is pleasantly evolving. When I was working in London for 7 years from 2005 to 2011, I often came to Spain to avoid the grey but had never been to Valencia. Although I visited Spain at least twice a year, most tourists to Spain frequent the Costa del Sol from Malaga or go to Barcelona and Madrid as there are more regular flights and connections. My first visit to Valencia was in 2018 and I fell in love with the city right away. Wide boulevards, palm trees and lots of green space with the old Turia river transformed into a massive park with bicycle lanes after the river was diverted due to infrequent flooding; and such a great city of contrasts between old and new; I’ve seen numerous wine bars with good quality affordable wine and tasty tapas popping up and they are just some of the reasons I love this city! Bouet has become my favourite Valencian restaurant and is consistently great – I always recommend that people go there if they visit Valencia. A Valencian sushi restaurant also deserves Thacks Awards mention, but it’s more for die-hard sushi fans so Bouet offers menu options for more varied palates.”
Some International Airlines like Qatar still don’t offer direct connections to Valencia, but Ryan Air and Wizz Air have started offering some regular affordable flights into the city which has increased visitor numbers steadily and made travel to Valencia more affordable. It’s certainly worth a visit and if you haven’t been to Valencia, book a weekend break asap – or visit for at least four days – to visit and explore this beautiful ‘city of oranges’. The old city streets are still lined with orange trees and by December the fruits start randomly falling off the trees onto the sidewalks! Valencia is also well-known for the annual ‘Falles’ fire festival, a traditional celebration of Saint Joseph, where art installations are erected and then burnt at the end of the celebrations.
Bouet Restaurant offers a fantastic varied menu including some tasty Asian fusion dishes and some local spin Spanish fare. The wine list is extensive and the crockery and cutlery are beautiful – as is the décor. The staff are all friendly and eager to please – each time we leave past the cooking section, the chefs also greet you goodbye.
TOP TIP: Try the cheese cake. It’s a savoury take on a cheese board with warm creamy cheesecake and if it’s warm into the centre, you’re in for a massive treat!! Remember to book at least a week in advance – you need to add card details to secure a reservation here but you won’t be billed unless you’re a no-show (you can still cancel your reservation without charge though), so the price you pay on the evening is your bill – and it is well worth the price. Ask the sommelier about what would go well with the ‘big’ sexy wine glasses too.
